Sunday, June 10th, 2007
On Sunday, June 10th at 12:30 there will be an event at Sunrise Hospital celebrating National Cancer Survivor Day-2007.
According to Julie V., Oncology Clinical Practice Coordinator at Sunrise, the theme will be “A Celebration of Life!” and there will plenty of fun stuff. Arts/Crafts activities for children and adults as well as an art slide-show of cancer survivor art, goodie bags for everyone, a raffle, a workshop called “Healing and Coping Together”, a book signing, therapeutic music and food.

As a very special feature, there will be local survivor and caregiver speakers—colorectal, prostate, breast and two OCAN members will be speaking. One of OCAN’s speakers will be a veteran cancer survivor and the other speaker is newly diagnosed. All of our group members (as well as survivors, friends and family of all cancers) are invited to attend this uplifting and festive event. It’s estimated that there will be well over 100 attendees.

Friday June 15, 2007
On Friday, June 15, 2007, Stephanie will be solo vocalist with a jazz trio at the Lloyd George U.S. Courthouse (333 Las Vegas Blvd.) noon to 1 pm. This concert, like the other, is free. Hope Ocanettes will turn out to support one of “our own”.

OCAN REPRESENTATIVES TO SPEAK AT SIERRA HEALTH
Through the efforts of Brooke Greenlee, Health Educator at Sierra's Health Education and Wellness Department and Wendy Ronovech, Clinic and Worksite Wellness Manager, OCAN will have the opportunity to provide information about ovarian cancer risk factors, symptoms and latest treatment modalities at the Sierra facility on March 23rd, 2006.
Although this presentation is not open to the public, it will be the subject of the monthly Health Educator's Meeting at Sierra and will enable the staff to disseminate accurate information about ovarian cancer symptoms, risk factors and latest treatments throughout the community.
OCAN is most grateful to Sierra Health and Life for scheduling this awareness opportunity in March, rather than waiting until Ovarian Cancer Month in September, as they originally had planned.
Thank you all at Sierra Health for joining with OCAN's efforts to help save women's lives through early detection and appropriate medical care.

February 25-26, 2006

Boulder City Womens Golf Association
On Tuesday, January 24th,2006 the Boulder City Women's Golf Association held their annual OCAN Tournament & Silent Auction. The BCWGA has been supporting the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada ever since OCAN's founder, Crispin Morrison met with their members to inform them about the symptoms of the disease. The event was well attended and well supported (in addition to being great fun). This year's donation surpassed last year with an much appreciated check to OCAN in the amount of $1416.18 (!) presented to Liz Williams, Crispin's mother and OCAN's current president.

A huge thank you to all the women who participated in making this event such a great success. Together, we are helping to save women's lives.
